About

*nix Windows: “Opening doors to freedom”. This pun basically summarizes what this blog is about. This blog is about our experiences with Linux, a “*nix” operating system, with hopes to someday replace Microsoft Windows with Linux, to “nix Windows”, since using Linux gives us more freedom and opportunity to do what we want, “opening doors to freedom”.
In this blog, we will document our struggles and accomplishments in setting up and using Linux as a day-to-day system, as well as post any tips and recommendations that we have. Due to the spontaneous nature of our struggles and experiments, there will not be a set schedule. Instead, we will post as we encounter noteworthy material.

We hope you will learn from our troubleshooting and are inspired to use Linux as well, and perhaps even give us a few tips and recommendations. We’re all in this together: we learn together and help each other grow.
So come with us. We’ll hold the door open for you.

tPenguinLTG

tPenguinLTG's Gravatar tPenguinLTG is the seasoned Linux user of the group; he has been running Linux for years. His first regular Linux system was openSUSE 11.2 (64-bit) on a custom-build PC. This installation was called “TODD”, after Todd the Dinosaur. He currently runs Arch Linux on his Lenovo ThinkPad T430 as his main system. In his spare time, tPenguinLTG likes to blog, listen to music, compose his own music, and tweak Jason.

Dreadnought Six (DSix)

Dreadnought Six's Gravatar Dreadnought Six is “meh” on the Windows platform. Starting with Windows 98, the reason why he was on a computer was because he was doing homework while using Encarta. He got into computers when a female friend of his in Grade 7 introduced him to Windows Movie Maker. Since then, he has aspired to become the next James Cameron. He loved editing videos for projects and enjoyed the fun that is producing. When Grade 9 came around, he was introduced to Computer Science by tPenguinLTG, thus opening his eyes to the world that he has always found interesting: video games. From that point on, he has dreamed learning Computer Science and eventually developing his own video games. He is now specializing in Computer Science thanks to tPenguinLTG.

He currently plays with Windows 7 Home Premium on his HP Pavilion m6, manages an old Acer Aspire installed with a “legal” copy of Windows 7 Professional and maintains his family’s Acer Aspire T-series installed with Windows 8.1. He will attempt to use CrunchBang Manjaro Arch Linux for his Linux operations.
